1998 Intercollegiate Wushu Championship

Which University will have the best Wushu Team in '98?

Well the event is over, and as the tournament director, I glad that its all over and I'm still in one piece! All in all things went really well. We had 34 competitors from eight different schools. The highlight of the day was the presence of the Beijing Wushu Team. The Beijing Team not only did a tremendous demonstration, but also served as judges for our hand form divisions.

I'd be remiss if I didn't extend a heartfelt thank you to Liu Yu, Wang Zhen Tien, Woody Wong and of course Phillip Wong and Zhang Hong Mei for their judging. These 5 judges did a tremendous job of judging all of our weapons and internal divisions. The tournament would not have been possible without their time and patience. We had three teams entered in our team competition: University of Oregon Wushu, UCLA Wushu, and the Golden Bears Wushu Team (representing UC Berkeley). Everybody had a good time and its good to see that the Intercollegiate Wushu competition has survived its critical second year. Next year's tournament is set for UC Irvine, and I'm hoping to see everyone back again!
