Intercollegiate Wushu Championships Rules

The tournament will have several awards: Best Individual
Man, Best Individual Woman and Best Individual Team. Any qualified
competitor can compete for the Individual titles, but only full
groups can compete for the team title.(see rules below).
- Divisions:
The following divisions will be offered for competition
for teams and individuals, divided up into beginner, intermediate
and advanced skill divisions:
- Handsets:
- Chang Chuan
- Nan Chuan
- Traditional (all styles)
- Tai Chi (Chen, Yang, Other)
- Weapons:
- Broadsword
- Straightsword
- Spear
- Staff
- Traditional Long
- Traditional Short
- Other:
- Open Wushu (includes other weapons
and other handsets)
- Group Set (Teams only)
- Team Competition:
-
Team Definition:
- -6 people, determined before the beginning of the
tournament.
- -At least two females per team.
- -ALL team members must be currently enrolled students
at the SAME University or College.
- -Team MUST compete in group set division.
- Scoring:
- -Best two places for each competitor will be chosen and
summed.
- -Sum of all six competitor's places will be summed
[12 places total].
- -Group Set place will be DOUBLED and added to team sum.
- -Team with highest team sum will be the winning team.
- Individual Competition:
- Eligible Competitors:
- -Must be a currently enrolled student or faculty/staff at a
University or College.
- -Members of a team are also eligible for the individual
awards.
- Scoring:
- -Sum of places in 3 divisions will be summed:
- 1)Hand Form (Nan Quan, Chang Quan, Internal, Traditional)
- 2)Short Weapon(Broadsword, Straightsword, Traditional
Short)
- 3)Long Weapon(Staff, Spear, Traditional Long)
- -Male and Female competitors with highest individual sum
will be Men's and Women's Individual Champion.
- Points awarded for placing:
Individual and Team competition will be combined.
Scores for all competitors will be given as in any normal
competition. There will be no ties awarded. Once the
competition in that division is complete, there will be
two separate set of results listed on the scoring sheet:
- 1) First through fourth of ALL competitors
(for use in the individual competition)
- 2) First through fourth of ONLY competitors
competing in team competition.
For both sets of scores, points will be awarded
as follows:
- First Place - 4 points
- Second Place - 3 points
- Third Place - 2 points
- Fourth Place - 1 point
- 5th and Below - 0 points
- Rules for Group Set Competition:
- -Only open to valid, full teams.
- -All participants must be from the same team.
- -Minimum of 4 team members must perform set.
- -Minimum time limit: One minute.
- -Can not be a set that any team members competed with in
individual competition.
- -Due to the fact that the score for group set counts
double in the team competition, points for this division
are awarded as follows:
- First Place - 4 points
- Second Place - 3 points
- Third Place - 2 points
- 4th and Below - 1 point
12/30/97 - Addendum:
Alumni Division: Individuals who have graduated not more than one year
before the tournament will be able to compete in the special 'alumni'
division. This division will allow the competitors to compete side by
side with the normal competitors and recieve a score from the judges. The
alumni competitors' scores are not tallied up with the normal competitors
when the results are compiled however. (to sign up for the alumni
division, please write 'alumni' on the registration form in the blank
for 'Year').
